Voices of families

We are very lucky to have so many of our families write blogs for us, describing what day-to-day life is like, both the highs and the lows, in their own words.

Find out what they have to say

A huge thank you to every individual, company, community group and charitable trust who helped Family Fund raise over £1.3M last year. We had more runners, bakers, skydivers and walkers than ever before. Read on to find out the difference everyone made and how you can get involved.

Launch of Wales Essential Grants Scheme

Following a reduction in Welsh Government funding, Family Fund were unable to support thousands of families who had previously received support in Wales. We were pleased to announce in 2017, due to a significant grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation, the launch of the Wales Essential Grants Scheme. This is our first step towards addressing the gap in funding from Welsh Government. This brand new grants scheme helped over 200* families last year with essential items such as washing machines, clothing and bedding that they would otherwise have been unable to afford.

One giant leap

Best friends Catherine and Kym faced their fears and embraced their wild side skydiving from a dizzying 10,000ft and raising over £1,100 for Family Fund.

“We wanted to take on a challenge and experience something new whilst give back to a cause close to our hearts. Skydiving is an experience we will never forget, we’re so happy we were able to support Family Fund and create such a brilliant memory together!”

More support for siblings

Family Fund took part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge for the first time, offering matched funding, meaning every donation received would go twice as far. Thanks to the support of individuals, companies and our champion funder Candis Magazine, we were able to raise nearly £4,000. This helped Family Fund support dozens more siblings of disabled or seriously ill children and young people through a small grants scheme. The scheme recognises the challenges many siblings of disabled children face on a daily basis with a small grant towards an activity or gift.

Bake sales to Dragon Boat Challenges – Atlantic Trampolines

Family Fund would like to acknowledge the support of Atlantic Trampolines throughout the year. They have taken part in a variety of activities and events from our annual Dragon Boat Race, which raised over £1,700, to our first Messy Tea Party.

Together we can achieve more

Families are at the heart of everything we do; as the Fundraising Team continues to grow and develop more ways to get involved, we promise to promote inclusive, responsible and exciting fundraising activities. All support will help Family Fund to develop and deliver new ways to support families on low incomes raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people.

We have lots of different ways to give something back; from skydiving and running events through to bake sales and dress down days. You can join Team Family Fund today by contacting the Fundraising Team
