Home entertainment

Entertainment is very important for children and young people of any age. For those with certain disabilities or illnesses, this can be vital when they are unable to do things like play outside or go to the park. Having a TV, DVD player or stereo means they can have fun indoors with their siblings and friends, reducing the pressure on their parents.

Computers and tablets

Being away from school for hospital appointments and treatment can be a regular occurrence for a lot of the children and young people we help. Having a computer or tablet means they can keep up with school work, keep in touch with their friends and family or play fun games to pass the time. This way they don’t feel isolated from the world.

Tablets can also give children and young people with certain conditions help to increase their fine motor skills or communicate with specialist apps, building confidence and become more independent.

Family breaks away

Our most frequently requested grant are those for family breaks. A break away from day-to-day life gives the family the chance to spend quality time together and focus on their relationships. Creating memories and getting away from some of the daily pressures of life is precious and essential to our wellbeing.

Kitchen appliances

We all need everyday items like a fridge-freezer or washing machine. A lot of families we help have been living with old appliances that don’t work or could cause a health hazard. Having up-to-date working appliances also saves families valuable time, which can be at a premium when caring responsibilities have to take priority.  By receiving a new appliance, they can safely wash their child’s clothes or store and cook fresh food - things most people can often take for granted.

Furniture

Items of furniture are frequently requested by families. Children and young people with certain conditions can be prone to cause damage to furniture or they may need something very specific for their room. A lot of our families simply cannot afford a bed, sofa or wardrobe for their child, and our grants are the only way they can provide some of these essential items.

Clothing

Aside from food, this is probably the most basic of items that every single person needs. For some children with specific conditions and illnesses, they get through clothing at a much quicker rate than others due to wear and tear or hygeine issues. Sometimes, our families just can’t afford to keep up with their growing child. The cost mounts up - and these grants help families to cope with what can be a regular extra expense.

Where our money goes

We work hard to make every penny we receive in funding, donations, sponsorship and discounts stretch as far as possible to help as many families as we can across the UK
